These healthcare professionals are responsible for both administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. Medical Assistants perform an assortment of duties, including routine tasks and procedures such as measuring patients’ vital signs, administering medications and injections, and recording information in medical recordkeeping systems. Administrative duties include greeting patients, updating and filing patients’ medical records, and scheduling appointments. Medical Assistants also act as a patient coordinator by providing a means of communication between patients, doctors and other health care providers.

At NCE, you can train to be a Medical Assistant in as few as 9 months. NCE’s program provides hands-on training from experienced, professional faculty. Students learn to perform basic laboratory procedures, as well as how to assist physicians in medical office examinations. NCE graduates are also prepared to perform administrative duties such as bookkeeping, record management, appointment scheduling, insurance, and medical practice management. Upon completion of the program, NCE graduates are prepared to obtain the Medical Assistant National Certification from the NCCT.

Lab Assistant, EKG Technician/ Phlebotomist

Medical Laboratory Assistants are responsible for duties including performing routine and specialized tests, recording testing information, and preparing specimens. Lab assistants may also be responsible for cleaning and restocking the lab facility, keeping inventory, and ordering lab supplies. EKG technicians specialize in electrocardiogram (EKG) testing for patients. EKG machines are complex devices that monitor the heart’s performance through wires and electrodes attached to a patient’s chest, arms and legs. Phlebotomists are the health care professionals who draw blood, ensuring that the proper amount is taken and that all blood is properly labeled. Their main responsibility is drawing and preparing blood for lab testing, but Phlebotomists are also responsible for collecting specimens of other bodily fluids for testing as well.

NCE students learn to perform many important procedures, including laboratory procedures for hematology, bacteriology, urinalysis, electrocardiography, and phlebotomy. Students also develop communication and interpersonal skills. Upon completion of the program, students are CPR certified and are prepared to obtain the California Phlebotomy Technician (CPT1)License from the State of California.
